Privacy Policy

Katachi is a Japanese grammar practice app for iOS, operated by Sena Terada (Japan). This policy explains what the app and this website do with your data. The short version: Katachi has no accounts, does not ask for your name, and never sells data.

The app

No account, no personal profile. Katachi does not require sign-up. Your progress (which units you have completed, your streak, which drills you got wrong) is stored on your device only.

Speech. When you answer by voice, the app uses Apple's Speech Recognition (the same technology as dictation) to turn your speech into text so it can be checked. Audio may be processed by Apple on your device or on Apple's servers, under Apple's privacy policy. Katachi does not record, store, or transmit your audio, and does not keep the sentences you say or type.

Analytics. To understand which grammar points learners struggle with and whether the app is working, Katachi may send anonymous usage events (for example: "a drill in unit 2-1 was answered by voice and marked as a particle error"). These events contain no personal identifiers, no advertising identifiers, and never the sentence you produced. We use a privacy-preserving analytics service that does not track you across apps or websites. You are not asked for tracking permission because no tracking takes place.

Purchases. Payments are handled by Apple through the App Store. Katachi receives only a confirmation that a purchase or subscription is active, never your payment details.

This website

Waitlist. If you enter your email address, we store it, the date, and which link you arrived from (for example "youtube") in order to email you when the app launches. We will not add you to any other list. To be removed, email [email protected] and we will delete your address.

Site analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies and does not identify individual visitors.

Children

Katachi is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you and have it deleted at any time by emailing [email protected]. Because the app stores progress only on your device, deleting the app deletes that data.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
